Treatment of distal femur fractures with retrograde intramedullary nailing utilizing a tibial nail

چکیده
Aim: Retrograde intramedullary nailing for the treatment of femur fractures is a sound option due to its advantages including ease implant placement and better control distal segment, especially in fractures. Unfortunately, retrograde femoral nails are not available most developing countries or rural areas. The primary aim study investigate outcomes an alternative fracture with using tibial nail. Material Method: Patients who had underwent nail between January 2020–March 2022 retrospectively evaluated. were treated other than nail, aged below 18, follow-up less 6 months, multiple fractures, open excluded. Patients’ demographics, time union, complications recorded. Functional included visual analogue pain score (VAS), Lysholm score, Tegner activity scale, Knee Society Score (KSS), Short Form-36 (SF36) on latest follow-up.Results: A total 15 patients (11 male, 4 female) met inclusion criteria study. mean age was 42.9±17.3 (range, 18 72) months. period 10.1±5.2 months 18). There no reduction loss failure during follow-ups. One patient nonunion. No intraoperative occurred. Persistent knee seen intraarticular screw removed arthroscopically. In follow-up, VAS 0.73±0.70 0 to2), 5.0±1.5 3 7), 90.9±9.9(range, 64 100), KSS 86.6±8.6 70 97), SF-36 96.5±4.7 87 100). Conclusion: results this suggest that has good functional should be considered as where available.

The Role of Biplanar Distal Locking in Intramedullary Nailing of Tibial Shaft Fractures
Background: To compare the union times of the uncomplicated tibial shaft fractures, which were distally locked by twocoronal and one sagittal screws and by only two coronal screws. Methods: 45 patients with tibial shaft treated with intramedullary nailing included in this study. 23 of 45 fractureswere treated with uniplanar two distal interlocking (Group 1) and 22 fractures were treated with bip...
متن کاملRetrograde Intramedullary Nailing for Distal Femur Fracture with Osteoporosis
BACKGROUND The incidence of distal femur fracture in the elderly has been increasing recently, and commonly occurs with osteoporosis. Retrograde intramedullary nailing has been considered a good surgical option for distal femur fracture. The purpose of the present study was to present our surgical results with retrograde intramedullary nailing for distal femur fractures with osteoporosis. MET...
متن کاملRetrograde versus antegrade intramedullary nailing of gunshot diaphyseal femur fractures.
BACKGROUND The use of retrograde nailing for gunshot wound femur fractures is controversial due to concerns of knee sepsis after this procedure since the knee is entered to introduce the nail into the canal. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES We compared retrograde and antegrade nailing for gunshot femur fractures to determine whether (1) knee sepsis or other adverse events were more likely to complicate pro...

To the Editor: We read with great interest the manuscript by Kim et al. entitled “Retrograde Intramedullary Nailing for Distal Femur Fracture with Osteoporosis” in the current issue of your journal. We must congratulate the authors for this study. However, we would like to elaborate on few points and would like to draw attention of authors and readers to the following: 1. Filling void in commin...
متن کاملDistal Locking Screws for Intramedullary Nailing of Tibial Fractures.
Recently introduced tibial intramedullary nails allow a number of distal screws to be used to reduce the incidence of malalignment and loss of fixation of distal metaphyseal fractures. However, the number of screws and the type of screw configuration to be used remains obscure. This biomechanical study was performed to address this question. Thirty-six Expert tibial nails (Synthes, Oberdorf, Sw...
